Abstract Cattle act as reservoirs of certain zoonotic bacterial diseases to human beings. Farmers; herdsmen and their families as well as consumers are known to be a group of special risk to such pathogens. Pathogenic bacteria were detected by serological examination of 400 blood samples (200 from cattle and 200 from man) for detection of positive reactors for Brucella. Also, bacteriological examination of rectal swabs collected from 200 cattle (130 diarrhoeic cases and 70 apparently healthy) as well as 100 stool specimens collected from human beings (60 diarrhoeic cases and 40 apparently healthy). The samples were collected from Alexandria and Behera Provinces. In addition, PCR technique was carried out as a diagnostic method on 20 whole blood samples of serologically positive cattle and human beings (10 samples of each) and on the isolated E. coil 0157 and S. en.teritidis from cattle and human beings. The obtained results revealed the following: 1- Serological examination of serum samples: A) Cattle: Positive reactors for brucellosis were 12.0, 11.0 and 10.0% iy using of RBPT, BAPAT and Rivanol test respectively. |
