Abstract

This study was designed as a prototype for helping researchers and decision makers to map the direction and trends of the current national health and biomedical sciences research in universities, institutes, and research centers in Egypt and for linking the Egyptian health and biomedical sciences literature with the development of health research system in Egypt. Two main web techniques were adapted in the study to design and develop the Content Management Application (CMA). The first, technique is the database driven web application applied in two XML native bibliographic databases, the Egyptian health and biomedical sciences literature, and the Medical Subject Headings List (MeSH). The second technique is the bibliometrics analysis methods and the bibliographic data visualization techniques to present the search results in graphic mode (histograms). A questionnaire designed and developed to explore and measure the importance of the Egyptian health and biomedical sciences literature and its implications on the quality of health sciences research and health knowledge, in addition to, its ability to minimize scientific misconduct such as plagiarism and duplication. The results showed that 71.9% agreed that Egyptian health literature could be considered as an essential source to improve the knowledge of health care professional. 83.4% of the participants agreed that Egyptian health literature would be helped in improving awareness of decision makers about health and medical issues.
