Abstract

There is a linear relationship between protein-uria and progression of CRF thus lowering blood pressure diminishes proteinuria and retards the rate of progression. The benefit of renoprotective therapy is related to its hypotensive/ antiproteinuric effect. Some drugs blocking the RAAS, i.e., Angiotensin Converting Enzyme (ACE) inhibitors and Angiotensin 2 receptor 1 Blockers (AT1B), exert additional benefit because of their specific antiproteinuric effect and inhibition of angiotensin 2 generation.
The aim of the study was to analyze risk factors for progression of chronic renal disease by evaluating statistical links between decline in renal function and different factors.
This study was carried out on 35 children of both sexes and different ages, from already diagnosed as chronic renal failure cases. The study was done in the outpatient clinic in the Pediatric Nephrology Department at the Moneera Children Hospital, Cairo University, during the period from January 2006 to December 2006. Patients were divided into two groups according to the severity and progression of CRF as judged by GFR, Group A (progressive disease) and Group B (non-progressive disease). Patients were subjected to full clinical history, careful clinical evaluation, anthropometric measurements, laboratory and radiological evaluation.
