Abstract

Ultrasound examination is widely used in ophthalmology. Ocular ultrasonography has become an essential technique for exploring the globe and orbit and provide enough information to reach an ophthalmic diagnosis allowing the clinician to establish treatment and prognosis.
Ultrasound is used in measuring of the mass and size of tumors and retinal detachment. It is also used in treatment of eye diseases and this because of the ability of absorbance for ultrasound energy in eye tissues .Ultrasound is used also in the cataract surgery by phacoemusolification technique and lens replacement. Moreover the elevation of eye temperature, which is produced from ultrasound absorption, is used in the treatment of eye carcinoma. Ultrasonic energy can be focused through optically opaque media such as the sclera, cataract or vitreous hemorrhage.
This study aimed to investigate the histological and molecular changes in rabbit corneas after insonification with diagnostic ultrasound. Newzealand albino rabbits were used in this study. Seven rabbits were used as control group. The rest of rabbits were classified into three groups (I, II and III).
