Abstract
Magnesium is the fourth important cation in the body after phosphorus, calcium, and potassium. The second important intracellular cation after potassium and the fourth important plasma cation after sodium, potassium and calcium.
Magnesium is essential for many biochemical reactions and has an important effect on different body systems. It regulates and catalyses more than 300 enzyme systems.
Magnesium plays an important role in regulation of most cellular functions and is considered to act as a regulator of different ion channels (potassium, calcium, and sarcoplasmic reticulum
