Abstract

The aim of this study was to find out the incidence of insulin restsance in women with recurrent pregnancy loss and the relationship between the different parameters and insulin resistance and recurrent pregnancy loss.
This study is a case-controlled analytic study that was conducted in Ain Shams Maternity University Hospital in the period from January 2005 to January 2006 in order to find out the relationship between insulin resistance and recurrent pregnancy loss.
The study comprises 2 groups: Group I (study group): Comprises 30 pregnant women with 2 or more consecutive pregnancy loss with the same partner and Group II (control group) Comprises 20 pregnant females without recurrent pregnancy loss and they served as a control group.
Pregnant women with recurrent pregnancy loss (defined as natural abortion occurring before twenty weeks of gestation or fetal weight less than 500 grams) and not known to have any organic maternal or cervical disorders that could be attributed to the recurrent pregnancy loss were included in the study.
Women with RPL associated with: Diabetes Mellitus, Hypertension and cardiovascular disorders, Anatomical abnormalities of the uterus, Anti-phospholipid syndrome and RH incompatibility (all patients were RH positive) were excluded from the study.
