Abstract

The present study aims to involve more reality to the interaction between soil medium and the Hydraulic Structures. A brief description of the current available methods of analysis of the soil structure interaction has been introduced. The method of soil simulation and the finite element method as a numerical technique have been discussed. The Structure models have been applied for the most widely used soil models which are Winkler and continuum model with Drucker-Prager option to express the Rate-independent plasticity for the soil medium. This is characterized by the irreversible straining that occurs in the material once a certain level of stress is reached The parameters of the study include soil stiffness and foundation stiffness. The validity of the chosen Element type in the Finite Element program has been checked for published problems. The behavior of both Winkler and Continuum models are studied with two structures. The first is a Regulator has been constructed in El-Salam canal project. The second is navigation Lock constructed in El-Ismallia canal ( Seryacos village ). A brief description for the problem and the main reasons leads to it are introduced. Also an analysis for the output results from the computer model has been discussed Finally the conclusions are drawn for the proposed models showing the main advantages and disadvantages for both the soil models. General overview for the design of hydraulic structures are completely have been drown.
