Abstract

Many species of reptiles were examined from different localities in Egypt for the detection of Sarcocystis during the period 2003-2006.
Muscles examination of the naturally infected lizards which are Acanthodactylus spp. (Acanthodactylus scutellatus A. boskianus asper and A. paradalis paradalis) and Chalcides spp. (Chalicides chalcides Chalcides ocellatus ocellatus) demonstrated the presence of 2 types of (sarcocytsis acanthocolubri and sarcocytsis gongyli).
- The sarcocysts were characterized using both light and electron microscopy (Transmission & scanning) and the variability of their incidence of natural infection with sex, age and season were also determined.
- Also the Detection of the final host of the species by inoculation of such cysts in to exothermic predator snakes and it is proved that the snake spalerosophis diadema is the final host of two types of Sarcocystis observed.
- Moreover the Elucidation of the life cycle and the comparison between Sarcocystis decribed during the present study with those infecting other reptiles.
