Abstract

maturation of fetal brain is mandatory to diagnose fetal CNS pathologies.
Imaging of the fetus using U/S is still the first-line diagnostic examination for fetal screening because of its safety, easy access, low cost and real-time capability. But when a questionable abnormality is visualized at US or when an abnormality is definite but the exact diagnosis is uncertain, alternative imaging modality is important for decreasing ambiguity in the counseling of expectant parents. Fetal MRI as a non-invasive, highly informative examination has become a valuable adjunct to prenatal ultrasonography.
Technical advances in fetal MR imaging have made it an increasingly important tool in the evaluation of CNS abnormalities. In particular, the development of ultra-fast T2-weighted technique has made it clinically practical and easy to image the fetus without maternal or fetal sedation.
