Abstract Incisional hernia can be defined as a protrusion through the area of a surgical incision. A symptomatic bulge will develop in about 10% of abdominal incisions and require surgical intervention. An account on the types and clinical picture of incisional hernias as well as the complications caused by their presence was stated. The etiology of incisional hernias is discussed in details; also the incidence of incisional Hernia is discussed. The management of incisional hernias in reviewed (conservative, pre - operative, operative and postoperative), Different methods of repair are discussed with stress on points with and against each repair as well as the historical background and modifications used by different workers. The complications of incisional hernia repair are discussed in details. |
